SUMMARY:AIOTI Workshop on Semantic Interoperability for Digital Twins
DESCRIPTION:The AIOTI Workshop on Semantic Interoperability for Digital Twins is aimed at advancing the field of semantic interoperability and laying the groundwork for the next generation of information systems. The workshop will focus on solutions for industry along with encouraging greater take-up of semantic technologies\, including controlled vocabularies\, taxonomies\, and ontologies. Semantic interoperability is essential for supply chains as well as for repairs and recycling in relation to the plans for the circular economy as part of the EU’s Green Deal. \nSemantic Interoperability is the ability of computer systems to exchange data with a shared\, unambiguous meaning. Achieving this is critical to opening up markets for services and data\, avoiding fragmented data silos\, and enabling seamless cross-domain data infrastructures. \nThe workshop will cover the following topics: \n\nState of the Art: Establishing a shared understanding of the current landscape of semantic interoperability.\nSuccess Stories and Best Practices: Showcasing successful implementations and identifying common practices\, e.g.\, at GS1 and eclass.\nChallenges and New Technologies: Exploring what is missing and the potential contributions of emerging technologies\, including AI and digital twins. Discussing metrics for evaluating the maturity of vocabularies\, taxonomies\, and ontologies.\nRoadmap and Next Steps: Concluding with recommendations for advancing the field and proposing a roadmap for future development.\n\nThis AIOTI workshop is organized by ERCIM\, with the support of the Center Inria Université Côte d’Azur\, the Nephele and SmartEdge EU projects.

This cross-disciplinary effort is timely\, given the rapid advances in technology and increasing interconnectivity. \nSTEADINESS invites participation from system-level experts (architecting\, safety\, security\, performance\, etc.) and market influencers (product-lines\, policy makers). Topics will bridge advances across domains like edge/cloud\, IoT\, AI\, and more. Presentations will be shared via HiPEAC\, and a white paper will follow\, supporting future research. \nThis effort is key to integrating new technologies into national infrastructure (transport\, energy\, etc.)\, while addressing the risks of interconnectivity\, such as safety and security concerns. The Programme is led by Charles Robinson (Thales) and Marco Jahn (Eclipse Foundation). DESCRIPTION:The Internet of Things (IoT) is evolving rapidly\, driven by advances in edge computing and swarm intelligence\, transforming sectors like mobility\, energy\, agriculture\, and manufacturing. Over the past two decades\, IoT and edge computing have been critical to the Green and Digital transitions\, reshaping business models and services. Standardizing these technologies requires a coordinated approach across sectors. \nGeopolitical challenges highlight the need for unified IoT standardization. Collaboration with international entities is essential to define global standards\, safeguarding European interests. \nThis workshop\, organized by the European Commission with CEI Sphere and INSTAR\, will address gaps in standardization\, foster collaboration\, and promote international cooperation on emerging technologies. Key initiatives like ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 41 and SAREF will be central to discussions. \nOur colleague Dave Raggett (W3C/ERCIM) is invited to address the critical questions around international standardization activities and the EU involvement in them\, with the aim of fostering cross-fertilization between ongoing projects in IoT and edge computing.

This DiscoverUS workshop brings together  top scientists from the US and EU in Sabaudia\, Italy. \nBringing together  top scientists from the US and EU\, the workshop addresses the following research areas: \n\nManaging complexity through high levels of abstraction\nEmerging concepts and challenges for distributed computing and swarm intelligence development\nAI-based self-organized\, dynamic\, and adaptive management concepts\nCollaborative programming frameworks and software development tools\n\nCheck the detailed program. \nThe vision workshop is organized by the Horizon Europe DISCOVER-US project in cooperation with the US National Science Foundation (NSF) and aims at promoting and funding pre-competitive transatlantic research collaborations in the above-mentioned research areas.
